Quick Fix: DDoS is actually quite rare. In a DDoS attack, there are either multiple people or a BotNet sending you false packet IDs. Normally it's DoS, which is when only one machine is sending the packets. Hence the names, "Distributed Denial of Service," and, "Denial of Service," attacks. Also, your router will not flame up. The internet just shuts down from the buffers overloading. In extreme cases, it will just shut down internet for a couple days. It's kind of like a purposeful lag spike.
