The day that nobody ever wants to hear about, nor experience again: September 11th, 2001.
    9/11.
For those of you who do not know, there were terrorist attacks on the US on this day. And I mean BAD terrorist attacks.
Around 9:30 in the morning that day, people in New York City saw a plane, flying towards the Twin Towers, a symbolization of our country's freedom. People thought it might have been a pilot that was drunk or in training, or that the course had been messed up. The plane crashed into the building.
A little while later, when everyone was cooling down, New Yorkers were starting to see another plane, headed toward the other tower. By this time we knew it wasn't a mistake.
    It crashed into the building.
Inside the two planes, it was average, until a passenger hijacked the captain's seat and drove it right into a building. These people were terrorists.
Right when people thought it was done, 2 more planes flew into Washington, DC. People were scared, and aggravated, of course. One plane crashed, again, and the passengers on the other one knew what was going on by now that they hijacked the terrorist and it crashed into a field.
    That was the last one.
    9/11.
Just 3 numbers and a slash have so much meaning.
2,996 people were killed that day. Believe it or not, my mom was the manager of Red Cross at the time, so I know all about it.
If you're reading this, please take the time to have a moment of thought and of sorrow for everyone who died in this incident.

    Thanks,
    -Swag

My uncle was standing next to the twin towers, and he almost died from the smoke and dust coming his way. Even though I wasn't alive when this happened, it was a terrible experience for many, and so many people risked their lives to save others. It was a very sad day. :(

I don't mean to sound un-patriotic, but a correction. The twin towers are not a symbol of "our country's freedom". They were built to re-develop areas of Lower Manhattan.

I was only 3 months old at the time and my mum would always tell me the story whenever it would come up in the news. I remember going to the memorial 2 years ago and I was tearing up while my mum was crying. Even though I'm not American, it's still very emotional for me and I will always pay my respects to those who had lost their lives and to the family and friends of those who passed.
Rest In Peace to all who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy <3

I watched a video of people jumping out of the towers/falling.
Rest in peace those who died in this horrible tragedy.

I agree. There are much bigger problems than the demolition of several government buildings 13 years ago.

But then you realise that over 3,000 people [and counting] died that day and it's only common decency to respect people's grievances.

And more people died the day the United States of America dropped nuclear bombs on highly populated Japanese cities (250k). Yet, people don't talk about that in respectful tones, they seem rather proud of it. You might argue that this may have saved many lives or ended the war faster , but as a deontologist, I disagree.

The atomic bombing was not a part of this conversation, nor did I ever say it's not a big deal that people died from it. All I said was that you should be a bit more respectful when we are conversing about a major historical event that killed thousands.

Why should we be respectful when people die though? Is it a law? Why is it considered moral to do so?

My teacher told us how everything changed after it happened, from her view. Not only the sadness and concern of all the people who died, but they way it affected us as a country.
