As many of you may have noticed, Minetime's game server connections experienced some minor instability today. All 24 of Minetime's front-end nodes were hammered with high-bandwidth DDoS attacks. The attacks Minetime experienced are called NTP attacks -- which are powerful and new. You can read more about them here. We constantly monitor our network for malicious activity, and eventually mitigated all of the attacks. There was a struggle of control around 9:10 PM CST, with Minetime winning the war around 10:45 CST. This is when you may have noticed the most connectivity issues. We are putting measures in place to make sure attacks like this do not affect our network in the future. Thanks for your patience and maturity throughout the situation. - Collin
Glad to see everything worked out! I was worried if something VERY bad was happening... Glad you guys won the war! :3
Wow, I didn't know such an attack extisted. Fascinating to read into Anyway, I thought minetime was protected by Black Lotus and could not be harmed and was under 24hour surveillance? This explains the lag spikes and bungee jumping in fps, thanks for the info
I'm surprised someone was able to find/attack all 24 locations at once... You have some real haters out there
My ideas was that if you try to DDoS us, a picture of @CollinPotato's cat will pop up and ask you if you're "weally sure" that you want to do that. That would be the best mitigation.
Why would collin fall down to their level?? Anyways collin is to busy helping and making the server better for everyone ^.^
Minetime has (I believe) advanced firewall and protection. I believe it takes a massively experienced hacker and good facility to do this.
