I love the new muting system because it really stops a lot of spammers, but people are starting to bypass it. Most mute plug-ins have a config where you can choose which words will get you muted. Usually they bypass it with symbols. Is there a way you can edit it so that each swear with a symbol in also mutes? For example, Words elligable for mute - put the words here you want players to be muted for - s.wear - c.ur.sewo.rd - pr.ofan.ity - r.acis.t w.or.ds Also, is it possible to change the mute for swears contained in words such as "cucumber" or "vague" that don't do any harm. Please look into this. Thanks for reading! *I put this in the community forums to see what most people think of this* ~ Tac
That's why we have Helpers and Moderators to stop that. If you guys see players doing this, you should screenshot it and report it to staff. I'm sure @drtshock 's new plugin will fix that though.
That's just making the mute more effective :/ By having it go through the whole network. As @tacticturtle said people can bypass it by simply putting symbols in the word. (not doubting @drtshock)
He can make it so it will block it. Of course there will always be some way to by pass it. Staff will mute them and if staff aren't online you guys should report it.
I didn't think of that... but yeah that would take way too long. People most commonly use periods though. Maybe that could be implimented.
Yeah, I can see how that would be a pain to fix the issue where people can bypass the current mute plugin by adding various characters to the mute system, but what about getting muted for "non-profanity"? Many words contain within them a word that the plugin has listed as profanity. @drtshock, My question to you is: "Is there a way to edit the mute plugin so that you don't get muted for words like cucumber, cumbersome, cumulative, accumulate, vague, vagabond, ect... ?" The reasoning being: Most people that utilize such language do not even know that it contains these groupings of letters that the mute system recognizes as profanity. The words themselves are rarely, if ever at all, used to convey profanity and even if they were, you said it yourself: "That's what the staff are for". Obviously the words I posted here are not a complete list of harmless words that will get you muted, there are probably hundreds of them in existence, perhaps even thousands. (After all, there are a great many words in the English dictionary.) Though many are not commonplace in online in-game communication, it nonetheless gets quite annoying when one gets themselves muted for an hour by utilizing a harmless word.
Woah, that's a lot of reading! I agree, this should be put in. People are saying: Wo rd or just abbreviations on prison mostly, like a 4 letter word, take 1st & 4th letter.
Well, yeah. People often use such methods to bypass the mute system, but like drtshock said "that's that the staff are for." What I'm more concerned about is the issue where people get muted for using a word that contains a smaller "bad" word in it. I think that it is unfair for players to be muted simply for exercising their vocabulary. Most who use these larger words that contain "profanity" do so unknowingly, and quite frankly, players should not even be muted for using words like accumulate. I believe that this is just a grievous error in the mute system and that it deserves at least some attention to see if there is a feasible solution to this issue.
@Jess Yes I can rework the regex rules on the mute plugin to exclude words that are included in other words like that. I'll get that done when I release my new punishments plugin in the coming week.
Thank you for your consideration, I'm sure that the community will benefit from the results of your efforts.
I believe he is referring to the "Global Mute/Ban" plugin he has been working on, where if you get muted or banned from one server then it transfers that to the whole minetime network.
I TOTALLY agree with this! it is starting to get SO annoying + I have a little sis that likes to watch me play and I don't want her to start running around the house saying not so nice words!
But yeah anyways I have seen people use spaces, exclamation marks instead of the letter I, and periods/underscores I think these r used most commonly
