Timeless is not for extra perks (although timeless comes with a few) It is about showing your support to the server.
Mojang hasn't changed the EULA. You may make yourself Blog Post compliant but nothing stops Mojang from just willynilly changing their mind. You didn't agree to the blog post, you agreed to the EULA. The EULA which has stated since 2013 that you may not make money from your minecraft server. https://account.mojang.com/documents/minecraft_eula "try to make money from anything we‘ve made;" Enjoy your thin ice.
Well, Mojang has only recently decided to change their enforcement of their own EULA. Before this they had set a precedent that you were allowed to make enough money to maintain and improve your server. However, I'm sure that servers will try their best to adhere to Mojang's inconsistent enforcement of vague policies designed to limit the diversity and creativity of their community. Whilst I understand where Mojang is coming from with this new-found vigor for strict adherence to their EULA, I still cannot personally agree that it is the correct course of action. I mean, a couple of servers were selling items for thousands of dollars, it's ridiculous. However, the many should not be held responsible for the actions of the few. They could have come up with a better solution than punishing the entire multiplayer community. Furthermore, their new option for monetizing servers is probably the worst idea ever conceived by them, selling tickets to a server. Previously, players could join pretty much any server for free, purchases were optional so players that could afford to support the server would. Now, you are severely limited on what you can reward players with when they support the server. Mojang would have you sell tickets instead, so that players would have to not only pay to get Minecraft, but pay again to play multiplayer, and pay again if they want to play on a different server, etc... (I believe we will find an alternative to selling tickets.) This, over time, would decrease the player count of servers and multiplayer in general. Which would, in turn, limit the available funds (As well as the reasons, because less players will use them) for community members to develop new and fun content, custom mods, plugins, etc... Thus constricting the creativity and openness of the community which has essentially created Minecraft, or at least made it what it is. (Note, these are my personal views of Mojang's new policy and they do not represent this server)
