Hey Minetimers, I am making this thread in an effort to keep you guys safe from impersonators and other scams. I've known that there has been a Skype account with the username "collinpotato" for a while now. I do not own this Skype account and it is not affiliated with Minetime. Recently, I've been receiving reports that the person who owns this Skype account has been using it to impersonate me and, in turn, manipulate people. We know who was behind the account and have, needless to say, banned them from Minetime. No, we're not going to give out their information or identity. It turns out that the impersonator behind the collinpotato Skype account set its email address as [email protected]. The user probably did this in an attempt to make the account look more legitimate, but this backfired on their part. I was able to use Emily's email address to get into the Skype account, lock the impersonator out of the account, explain to the account's contacts that it was a fake account, and retire the account. The account display name now shows as "Username Reserved by Minetime" and I have no plans to use the account in the future. That Skype account was probably the most threatening impersonator of Minetime/me, but me shutting down one impersonating Skype account definitely isn't going to wipe out this issue completely. Ultimately, it's up to you guys to make sure your communications with "Minetime" and its staff are verified as legitimate via official means like our website. Please take some time to think when a random player messages you in-game saying he's CollinPotato and he'll give you a moderator rank for $100... Silly schemes like that have been going on a lot lately. Is it reasonable to think that I would let someone pay to be a moderator or that I care about $100? Not at all. Here is a list of all the official Minetime accounts of which I can currently think: 1. any email address that ends in @minetime.com (people can spoof emails, however, so please use discretion) 2. @@CollinPotato, @@MinetimeSupport and @@drtshock on Twitter 3. "collinrulz", "collin" and "drtshock13" on Skype (Emily's Skype is private and begins with "haku". I generally only use the collinrulz account and do not accept requests from players -- sorry) 4. "collinpotato" on YouTube That's basically it. We do not use and/or communicate with people on the following websites: Bukkit Forums, Spigot Forums, Tumblr, WordPress, Blogger, Twitch.tv/Justin.tv, LinkedIn, Google+. We also only communicate with players casually in-game, and would never ask you to add us on Skype or externally message us anywhere. Hope this helps!
That would be difficult, to say the least. The Skype account has been merged with a Microsoft account and there is dual factor authentication enabled on the Microsoft account.
Thanks for the update Collin. I am glad I read this before even thinking of adding you on Skype. I hope that nobody tries to ddos you via Skype now.
Thanks! I, myself, found this as a scam because my friend was going to pay to get Helper and I told him it was a scam. He didn't listen to me. I have Trent on Skype.
